OSAKA -- Japanese homebuilder Daiwa House Industry group is looking to construct a factory in the U.S. to make prefabricated panels as one of its biggest domestic rivals makes an ambitious bid for scale.

Daiwa House's U.S. unit Stanley Martin believes building a factory in the market can lead to lower construction costs over the medium to long term, propelling the company's success there.
