Myanmar's deepening humanitarian crisis demands action

Three years have passed since the army takeover in Myanmar. Armed clashes between the military and a coalition of resistance forces consisting of pro-democracy groups and ethnic minorities have intensified. While there is no simple solution, the deepening humanitarian crisis urgently needs to be addressed.

The military detained Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior members of the civilian government on Feb. 1, 2021, and declared full control of the country. The regime continues to repress protesting civilians, killing about 4,500 people and still detaining roughly 20,000, according to human rights groups.
