KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia's Sultan Ibrahim, of the southern state of Johor, took the oath of office on Wednesday as the country's new king, with the monarch expected to become more influential in the country's politics and economy.
Malaysia's unique system of nine rotating rulers, called sultans or raja, sees one sovereign elected to serve as king of the Federation of Malaysia every five years. Sultan Ibrahim, 65, was elected in October last year.
